About this grant

A partnership program that places reporters in local newsrooms across Washington state for two- to three-year assignments to strengthen local news coverage. Participating newsrooms receive salary support on a declining scale and hands-on coaching to improve long-term financial sustainability. The program aims to ensure every county in Washington has access to strong local news coverage.

What you get

Salary support: 50% in year one, 33% in year two, 20% in optional year three
Additional funding possible for organizations with greater financial need, including full salary support
Hands-on coaching and resources to strengthen long-term financial sustainability
Support for growing subscriber and donor revenue
Free fiscal sponsorship for eligible for-profit news organizations seeking to accept tax-deductible donations
Reporter placement for two- to three-year assignment

Must be a newsroom based in Washington state
Newsrooms of all sizes and business models are eligible
Newsrooms currently hosting a Report for America corps member may apply, but WSU Murrow Fellows reporter cannot begin until the corps member's term has concluded
