About this grant

Supports basic or clinical biomedical, translational, epidemiological, caregiving, educational, or behavioral studies in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, or brain aging research. The grant is designed to help investigators generate preliminary data to support future NIH or other agency grant applications, with an emphasis on fostering engagement with the Arizona ADRC. Projects focused on blood biomarkers and brain imaging for early detection, diagnosis, and prevention of Alzheimer's are especially encouraged, though novel projects in underrepresented research areas will also be considered.

Eligibility

Must be faculty, or an advanced fellow/postdoctoral student with clear plans for transition to faculty status
Must be based in Arizona at time of submission or relocating to an Arizona university, hospital, or non-profit institution before July 1, 2027
Must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or lawful permanent resident (individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible)
Applicants at for-profit institutions must collaborate with researchers at an AAC Member or Affiliate Institution, with the primary PI having an appointment at one of those institutions
Researchers who previously received an NIA-sponsored Developmental grant are not eligible for a second NIA-sponsored grant; may apply for state-funded grant if 4+ years have passed
Each researcher may only receive one NIA-sponsored Developmental grant and one state-funded Developmental grant in total
Clinical trials are NOT permitted
All work must be carried out in the U.S.
