Supports nonprofit organizations working to safeguard the basic freedoms guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, eliminate all forms of prejudice and discrimination, and assist government agencies in being more accountable to the public. The program also considers contemporary societal issues as they arise. Grants are available to national organizations.

Summary of activities, objectives, anticipated outcomes, and potential partners

Total funding needed, amount requested, and other funding sources
Copy of IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter
Organization's current total operating budget and audited financial statement (if available)

Eligibility

Must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
Applicants may be national in scope
Grants will not be made for capital or endowment programs
Grants will not be made for sectarian religious purposes
No more than 10% of a grant may go to indirect costs (outside of general operating support)
Grants cannot be used for lobbying or other partisan purposes
Grants considered for one year's funding only
