About this grant

Provides seed and development funding for research, educational initiatives, and exploratory projects focused on coastal and marine science. Projects must align with NH Sea Grant's strategic focus areas including healthy coastal ecosystems, resilient communities, sustainable fisheries and aquaculture, and environmental literacy. Eligible activities include preliminary research, educational programs bridging classrooms and communities, and rapid response projects addressing emerging coastal challenges.

How to apply

Proposal Letter (2 page max) on letterhead including brief description of work, rationale, list of project participants with contact information
Itemized and detailed budget (not included in page limit)
Completed Abbreviated Environmental Compliance Questionnaire (NEPA)
Copies of associated permits (field sampling, IRB, IACUC) or evidence of permit waivers
Submission via eSeaGrant portal (eseagrant.unh.edu)

Eligibility

Must be a New Hampshire applicant
Eligible applicants include PreK-12 educators, faculty and researchers at NH universities or other educational institutions, or individuals working with nonprofits
UNH faculty must submit a 'Request for Internal Approval of Grant or Contract Application to External Sponsor' to Sponsored Programs Administration if selected
Non-UNH applicants must abide by their own sponsored research guidelines and work with UNH to set up funding if selected
Only one development award per two years is usually approved per awardee
Project must align with NH Sea Grant 2024-2027 Strategic Plan goals and objectives
Equipment costing $5,000 or more cannot be purchased with development funds
