About this grant

Provides competitive grant funding for building decarbonization projects including energy efficiency upgrades, electrification, and renewable energy development and storage across commercial buildings in Maryland. Eligible projects must result in quantifiable greenhouse gas emissions reductions. Funding is available across five tracks covering commercial buildings, local governments, local education agencies, mechanical insulation, and community resilience projects.

What you get

Grant funding from $3,000 (Track 4) up to $3,000,000 (Track 3 LEAs) depending on track and project type
Reimbursement for eligible construction, equipment, and engineering/design costs
BEPS Bonus of $50/Lifetime MTCO2e or $50/kW for projects at BEPS-covered buildings
ENOUGH Act/Overburdened Census Bonus of $50/Lifetime MTCO2e or $50/kW for qualifying LEA projects
Up to 95% project cost coverage for Community Resilience projects (Track 5)
Up to 90% project cost coverage for LEA projects (Track 3)

Self-verification attestation of minimum eligibility (Attachment C)
Monthly utility bills from the past twelve months
Project Energy Impact & Grant Calculator data
IRS tax-exempt status letter (non-profits only)
Audited financial statements for past two years (grants over $1,000,000 only)
Manufacturer spec sheets for mechanical insulation (Track 4 only)
Letters of support from Project Planning Committee stakeholders (Track 5 only)

Eligibility

Must be a commercial building, non-profit, local government, LEA, or BEPS-covered building in Maryland
Must have an established Employer Identification Number (EIN) at time of application
Must be registered and in good standing with the Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation
Non-profits must provide IRS letter attesting to tax-exempt status
Project must be located within the State of Maryland
Cannot receive more than one MEA incentive for the same project scope at the same location
Applicants requesting grants greater than $1,000,000 must be able to provide two years of audited financial statements
Must be able to provide monthly utility bills from the past twelve months
