About this grant

Supports community-oriented public humanities programs that help audiences understand and appreciate human history, culture, values, and beliefs. Eligible projects include exhibitions, discussion-based public programs, local history tours, interpretive digital media, documentary films, and curricula for the general public. Projects must demonstrate significant humanities expertise and be open and free or low-cost to the general public.

Grant funding of $5,000–$35,000 for humanities-based public projects
Support for planning or implementation phases of community-oriented humanities projects

Project narrative including summary, description, humanities themes, and audience/marketing plan
Project team information including bios and major responsibilities
CVs or resumes (up to 3 pages) for major humanities experts (combined into 1 document, max 3 MB)
Letters of commitment from key partners (combined into 1 PDF, max 10 MB)
Completed CTH Budget Form (Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, max 12 MB)
Current board list with names and contact information (PDF, max 3 MB)
Current year operating budget (PDF, max 3 MB)
Previous year operating budget actuals (PDF, max 1 MB)
For implementation phase: project revenue plan and contingency plan for external cash match

Eligibility

Project must demonstrate significant humanities expertise and content
Project must articulate clearly defined goals to be achieved during the project
For implementation phase, project must be open to the general public (excluding school projects)
For implementation phase, project must be free or low-cost to attend
Project must be humanities-based (exhibitions, public programs, local history tours, digital media, documentary films, curricula, etc.)
Implementation phase applicants must secure external cash match (25% for requests of $5,000–$24,999; 50% for requests of $25,000–$35,000)
