About this grant

Supports organizations and providers offering person-centered respite care for individuals living with dementia, providing relief to caregivers while ensuring meaningful engagement and safe support. Funding is available for start-up programs, pilot enhancements, and continuation of existing respite initiatives. Organizations serving communities at higher risk for Alzheimer's or other dementia are especially encouraged to apply.

What you get

Start-up awards: $100,000 total ($50,000 per year for two years) to plan and launch a respite program
Pilot awards: Up to $125,000 to enhance existing programs with innovative components across multiple service delivery sites
Continuation awards to further enhance a program or explore a related respite component after completing a start-up or pilot award
Technical assistance and ongoing education and resource support
Participation in learning and support opportunities

How to apply

Application submitted by the lead respite provider or one of the providers
Documentation of community need for proposed programs
Project budget with match contributions identified
Records for all match contributions (receipts for cash, documentation for in-kind)

Eligibility

Domestic public or private for-profit or non-profit entities, including state and local governments, faith-based organizations, community-based organizations, hospitals, and higher education institutions
Currently providing, or prepared to provide, dementia-related respite services
Must dedicate a staff member to lead the project and participate in all required aspects of the initiative
Ability to contribute the required 25% match of total project cost
Must establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with relevant community stakeholders
Must demonstrate a pre-existing need within the community for the proposed programs
Must be able to launch the proposed program and begin serving clients within two months of grant award (six months for two-year start-up awards)
Caregivers cannot be required to participate in additional organizational programming as a condition of benefiting from funded respite services
