About this grant

Supports early-stage clean energy and climatetech companies and academic researchers in Massachusetts to demonstrate the feasibility of their technologies and advance commercialization. Funding is intended for prototype development, proof-of-concept testing, and market validation activities at Technology Readiness Levels 2–4. The Academic Activator Spotlight track is specifically for Principal Investigators and research teams at Massachusetts-based nonprofit research institutions.

Attachment B: Completed Technology Readiness Level (TRL) Calculator
Attachment C: Completed Adoption Readiness Level (ARL) Assessment
Proposed project budget totaling exactly $75,000
Optional: resumes for team members, letters of support, schematics or diagrams (max 4MB)

Eligibility

Must be a Massachusetts-based early-stage Climatetech company with no more than $2,500,000 in combined financing/revenues over the past 5 years and 4 or fewer full-time equivalent employees (Catalyst track)
OR a Principal Investigator at a Massachusetts-based nonprofit research institution (Academic Activator track)
OR a Massachusetts-based student group led by a faculty PI at a Massachusetts-based nonprofit research institution (Academic Activator track)
Companies are not eligible for the Academic Activator program
Technology must be at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 2–4
Technology must qualify as Clean Energy or Climatetech as defined by M.G.L. c. 23J § 1
Company's headquarters, primary R&D, manufacturing, and sales must be located in Massachusetts
Applicants may not submit for the same idea more than three times without substantial change
