About this grant

Provides seed funding to catalyze preliminary research and education projects focused on Energy-Water (E-W) systems in Idaho, including physical infrastructure, governance, and community resilience. Projects must address the intersection of energy and water systems and are intended to lead to competitive external proposals to NSF or other federal funding agencies. Two project types are supported: Convergence Research and Education, and Community-engaged Collaboration with communities including Tribal nations.

References Cited (2 pages max)
NSF-compliant Budget Justification narrative and budget table (direct costs only)
Letters of collaboration if Tribal, community, or organizational engagement is proposed
Letter of commitment from faculty mentor if led by a postdoc

Eligibility

Must represent an institution eligible to receive and capable of managing federal NSF funds
Lead investigator must be a professional researcher, faculty member, or equivalent at an Idaho university, college, Tribal government, or non-profit organization
Awards only granted to entities located in Idaho; funded participants and collaborators must be employed in Idaho
Project must address Energy-Water systems as defined by I-CREWS
Must demonstrate synergy with ongoing I-CREWS efforts
Postdocs serving as PI must provide a letter of commitment to oversight by a faculty member
Graduate students are not eligible to apply or serve as co-principal investigators
Lead investigators may not serve as lead on more than one concurrent, active I-CREWS Seed Funding award
