About this grant

Funds Area Agencies on Aging serving rural populations to address service barriers for older adults, including transportation gaps, broadband and internet access, volunteer force development, and workforce recruitment and retention. Grantees may deliver services directly, through partnerships, or via contracts with other organizations. The program targets rural planning and service areas not associated with a Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Grant award from a pool of $800,000 (FY2026) distributed among approximately 9 anticipated awards
Grant period from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027
Funding for staffing costs, materials, supplies, travel, equipment, training, and consultant services
Indirect costs allowed at federally negotiated rate, GATA-approved rate, or de minimis rate

Valid DUNS number

Eligibility

Must be designated as an Area Agency on Aging by the State of Illinois
Must serve a rural population (PSA not associated with a Metropolitan Statistical Area as designated by the White House Office of Management and Budget)
Must have an Affirmative Action Plan for staff
Must comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Must comply with financial and programmatic reporting requirements (quarterly reports due 30 days after each quarter end)
Must be registered in SAM prior to submitting the application
Must provide a valid DUNS number in the application
Must maintain an active SAM registration with current information throughout the award period
