About this grant

Provides funding to help small businesses and nonprofits in the Charlottesville and Albemarle area reduce energy costs through building upgrades such as insulation, LED lighting, smart thermostats, HVAC improvements, and Energy Star appliances. Recipients first receive a no-cost energy consultation to identify the best upgrades, then receive grant funding to offset upgrade costs. The program also helps recipients stack savings from other government and utility rebate programs.

What you get

No-cost energy consultation with C3 energy experts
Grants up to $5,000 for energy efficiency upgrades
Tier 1 (insulation/weatherization): up to $1,000 or 50% of total cost, whichever is lower
Tier 2 (LED lighting, HVAC tune-ups, thermostats, solar window films): up to $1,500 or 30% of upgrade cost, whichever is lower
Tier 3 (electric appliances, HVAC units, water heaters): up to $2,000 or 30% of upgrade costs, whichever is lower
Non-profits receive an additional $500 applicable to any tier
Assistance stacking savings from government and utility rebate programs

Eligibility

Must be a small business or non-profit in the Charlottesville or Albemarle region
Must meet Virginia's definition of a small business: fewer than 250 employees OR less than $10M in average annual gross receipts
Must be headquartered in and have a physical location in Charlottesville or Albemarle
Home businesses are excluded
Must not have more than three locations in Charlottesville or Albemarle
