About this grant

Funds community-based organizations to provide or coordinate suicide prevention services to Veterans and their families who are at risk of suicide. Eligible services include outreach, screening, case management, peer support, assistance obtaining VA and other benefits, and limited emergency clinical services. The program emphasizes non-clinical, community-based approaches addressing mental health and social determinants of health.

Eligibility

Must be an incorporated nonprofit private institution or foundation with a governing board, a corporation wholly owned/controlled by such a nonprofit, an Indian tribe, a community-based organization that can network with local civic/health organizations, or a state or local government
Must be registered on SAM.gov with a valid Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)
Must not have outstanding federal obligations in arrears or overdue/unsatisfactory audit responses
Must not be in default on previous federal assistance
Must not be debarred, suspended, or excluded from federal transactions
Must propose services within a defined geographic area with established or planned VA linkages
Proposed program must not be primarily clinical in nature; only emergency clinical services are allowable
Must use the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) as the validated screening tool
