About this grant

Funds infrastructure projects that protect California communities most vulnerable to the impacts of extreme heat. Two project tracks are available: Early Infrastructure Projects for heat-related planning and demonstration, and Advanced Infrastructure Projects for implementing previously identified and feasible heat-related infrastructure. Projects must benefit disadvantaged communities and require a Lead Applicant plus at least one Co-Applicant.

What you get

Early Infrastructure Project awards ranging from $750,000 to $1.2 million
Advanced Infrastructure Project awards ranging from $3 million to $4.5 million
Eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits may qualify for up to 25% of total grant award as advance payment
Period of performance of 30 to 48 months

How to apply

Pre-Application Interest Form via Submittable (Window 1: June 16–July 21, 2026; Window 2: July 1–August 11, 2026)
Full Application Form via Submittable (due October 13, 2026 at 2:00 PM PST)
Budget and workplan including timeline for securing any additional funding
Lead Applicant and at least one Co-Applicant identified

Eligibility

Must be a Local/Regional Public Entity, Community-Based Organization, Public Higher Academic Institution, California Native American Tribe, or Coalition
Applications must include a Lead Applicant and at least one Co-Applicant
Any CBO serving as Co-Applicant must maintain a staffed operational office within 100 miles of the infrastructure project site
At least 40% of funding must benefit Disadvantaged Communities or Vulnerable Populations
A minimum of 10% of the 40% must support Severely Disadvantaged Communities
Must submit a Pre-Application Interest Form before the Full Application
