About this grant

Funds projects that explore, develop, treat, and beneficially use brackish water to protect New Mexico's limited freshwater resources. Eligible projects span the full project lifecycle including research, feasibility assessments, design pilots, environmental documentation, and construction of brackish water treatment facilities. Projects must advance state, tribal, or local economic development goals and improve long-term water resilience.

Project description aligned with one of the five project categories
Demonstration of how project advances state, tribal, or local economic development goals
Evidence of compliance with applicable permit and regulatory requirements
Documentation of long-term operational and financial sustainability plan

Eligibility

Must be a public entity or federally recognized Indian Nation, Tribe, or Pueblo located wholly or partially in New Mexico
Eligible public entities include counties, municipalities, political subdivisions of the State, state agencies, and state institutions of higher education
Project must be approved by the State Engineer as advancing the exploration, production, or treatment of brackish water in New Mexico
Project must comply with applicable state, federal, tribal, and local governmental standards and permit requirements
Project must clearly demonstrate how it will advance state, tribal, or local government economic development goals
Project must demonstrate ability to be built, funded, and operated over the long term
