About this grant

Supports the acquisition, development, and improvement of public parks, trails, and recreation facilities. Eligible projects include parks, greenways, shared-use paths, trail corridors, trailheads, and recreation centers that are open to the public. The program operates on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are depleted.

What you get

Up to $500,000 or 40% of eligible project costs for qualifying regional trail segment projects
Up to $250,000 or 40% of eligible project costs for park and recreation projects and all other eligible project types
No minimum grant request or award amount

Two (2) original signed hardcopies of the completed application
One (1) high-resolution electronic copy of the final application
Completed PDF application form (downloaded and filled using PDF reader/editing software)
Project Eligibility Verification Form (recommended prior to application)

Eligibility

Must be a government agency with statutory authority to acquire and develop lands for public parks, trails, or recreation within Madison and/or St. Clair Counties, IL
Eligible agency types include municipalities, townships, counties, transportation districts, park districts, universities, and 501(c)(3) nonprofits
Schools and school districts are NOT eligible
Project must be open to the public
Project sponsor must contribute a minimum of 60% of total eligible project costs (cost share requirement)
Shared-use paths must be at least 10 feet wide, hard-surfaced, and striped to qualify as trail projects
