About this grant

Supports research and development activities conducted within Alabama through partnerships between eligible research entities (universities, university research foundations, two-year colleges, publicly-owned hospitals, or qualifying 501(c)(3) research organizations) and private sector partners. Funded projects must focus on activities that advance R&D to improve employment opportunities and products and services for Alabama residents. This is a reimbursement-based grant program requiring dollar-for-dollar non-state match funding.

What you get

Individual grants up to the lesser of 20% of total grant funds awarded ($3,240,062 maximum) or 50% of budgeted project costs
Total program funding pool of up to $16,200,311
Reimbursement for eligible project costs including personnel, fringe benefits, supplies, contractual, travel, equipment, and indirect costs

Eligibility, Qualifications, and Experience section (4-page limit) including staff resumes

Eligibility

Must be a public or private university, university research foundation, public two-year college, or publicly-owned hospital in Alabama in partnership with a private sector applicant
OR a 501(c)(3) entity domiciled or qualified to do business in Alabama, predominantly engaged in research and non-commercial development activities, with headquarters and principal place of business in Alabama, and at least 75% of property and payroll in Alabama
Must partner with a private sector applicant (nonprofits cannot serve as the required private sector partner)
Eligible activities must be described by applicable NAICS codes, involve biofuel production, or be a target of Alabama's economic development efforts
For every dollar of ARDEF funds requested, at least one dollar of non-state appropriated funds must be committed as match
Match is limited to cash, grants, and contracts (state funds and in-kind cost share are ineligible as match)
Indirect costs and administrative costs may not exceed 10% of the grant amount awarded
Only one application may be submitted per email
