About this grant

Supports programs that engage youth and young adults in career exploration and workforce development activities related to healthcare, behavioral health, public health, allied health, and community health. Projects should expose participants to healthcare careers, build skills, create mentorship opportunities, and connect participants to education and employment pathways. Priority is given to programs serving rural communities in New Hampshire.

Awards ranging from $5,000 to $50,000
Total award pool of $350,000 with approximately 7 to 20 awards anticipated
Project period from November 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027
Participant stipends allowable when tied to program participation and project goals

How to apply

Organization overview including mission, background, relevant experience, and key personnel
Project description including proposed activities, target population, participant numbers, geographic service area, and timeline
Rural community impact section describing communities served and recruitment strategy
Expected outcomes and evaluation plan including measurable outcomes and data collection plans
Detailed budget and budget narrative
Applications must not exceed six single-spaced pages excluding budget forms and supporting documentation
Submitted electronically in PDF or Microsoft Word format to ken.lavalley@unh.edu

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include K-12 schools, school districts, CTE centers, higher education institutions, healthcare providers, community health centers, public health organizations, nonprofits, youth-serving organizations, workforce development organizations, tribal organizations, municipal agencies, and collaborative partnerships
Projects must serve youth participants ranging from middle school to young adult populations
Projects must be physically located within a rural area of New Hampshire as defined by FORHP, and/or primarily recruit and serve youth participants who reside within a FORHP-designated rural area of New Hampshire
Applications must clearly describe the rural communities and populations to be served
F&A costs may not exceed 10% of total direct costs
Organizations serving participants under 18 must certify compliance with youth protection standards
Awardees must provide a Certificate of Insurance with General Liability Coverage of at least $1,000,000 per occurrence
