About this grant

Supports individuals and organizations in Minnesota working to preserve and honor cultural heritage, provide education in cultural diversity, develop culturally diverse humanities and arts programming, and empower communities in building identity and culture. Priority consideration is given to Indigenous organizations, historically underrepresented communities, recent immigrant communities, and veterans. Funding comes from Minnesota's Legacy Amendment arts and cultural heritage fund.

Online application through MHC's grants management system
Project narrative addressing at least one eligible activity area
Itemized budget in MHC's required template
Financial documentation (audit, IRS Form 990, or board-reviewed financial statement) for requests of $25,000 or more
Community involvement description
Evaluation and impact plan
W9 and/or ACH form (required before first advance payment)

Eligibility

Applicant must be in good standing with the IRS
Applicant must be in good standing with the Minnesota Humanities Center
Project must preserve and honor the cultural heritage of Minnesota, provide education and student outreach in cultural diversity, support culturally diverse humanities/arts programming, or empower communities in building identity and culture
Legacy funding may only be used for new work or new additions to existing work
Funding must supplement and not substitute existing funding sources
Projects must be completed no later than December 31, 2027
Applicants requesting $25,000 or more must submit financial documentation (audit, 990, or board-reviewed financial statement depending on revenue size)
An applicant may only be awarded one grant during a grant period
