About this grant

Supports state, local, and tribal governments, nonprofits, educational institutions, and for-profit organizations to provide education and employment programs for adults and youth leaving prison and jail. Category 1 funds prison educational and vocational/trade programming for incarcerated individuals within 2 years of release, while Category 2 funds employment programs and workforce development networks aligned with local labor market needs. The goal is to improve academic and vocational outcomes, job readiness, employment attainment, and retention to reduce recidivism.

Approximately $20,000,000 total funding available across approximately 20 awards

Eligibility

Must be a state, local, or tribal government; educational organization; nonprofit; for-profit organization; or faith-based organization
Nonprofit organizations and non-correctional government applicants must submit a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the relevant correctional agency
Must certify commitment to collect unique identifiers and recidivism indicator performance data for each program participant (Appendix A)
Must commit to restricting internet access within incarcerated settings as deemed appropriate by the correctional agency
Programs must serve adults or youth currently incarcerated with 2 years or less before release into the community
Each application must propose a different project if submitting more than one application
Each application should apply to only one category (Category 1 or Category 2)
