About this grant

Funds basic and clinical research projects focused on developing effective interventions and cures for disabilities associated with traumatic brain injury. Supports individual research grants, pilot research grants, and postdoctoral/graduate student fellowships for investigators affiliated with qualified New Jersey institutions. What you get

Individual Research Grants: up to $150,000 per year for direct costs plus 20% indirect costs (1–3 year awards)
Pilot Research Grants: up to $75,000 per year for direct costs plus 20% indirect costs (1–2 year awards)
Postdoctoral Fellowships: $102,360 per annum (3-year award) including $65,000 stipend, $10,000 research allowance, $2,500 travel budget
Graduate Student Fellowships: $50,000 per annum (3-year award) including $40,000 stipend, $7,500 research allowance, $2,500 travel, up to $6,000 tuition
Optional $5,000 supplemental funding for laboratory visits, workshop attendance, or conference planning
Up to $2,000–$2,500 per year for domestic conference/meeting travel
Total program funding pool of approximately $6.5 million for FY 2027

Tax Clearance Certificate (valid within 180 days of submission)
Current list of Officers and Directors
Full scientific narrative (max 10 pages including references, figures, appendices; Times New Roman 11pt minimum)
Abstract and Lay Abstract; for fellowship applicants: letter of support from senior scientist and two reference letters

Eligibility

Applicant organization/institution must be located within the State of New Jersey
Principal investigators must be affiliated with a qualified New Jersey State academic institution, research organization, public or private agency, or other entity
Unaffiliated individuals are not eligible for funding
Individuals of any nationality or citizenship may apply if employed by or affiliated with a qualified NJ institution
Applicants with current Commission funding are eligible only if the funded project will be completed by March 31, 2027
For fellowship applicants: must hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. or equivalent graduate degree (postdoctoral) or be a full-time graduate student (graduate fellowship)
Institution must be a Qualified Research Institution approved by the Commission
Compliance with NIH regulations for protection of human subjects, animal welfare, and recombinant DNA is required
